Airport
The Charleston International Airport, located in North Charleston just off Interstate 526, serves the entire Trident area. The airport passenger terminal complex was built in 1985 to accommodate rapid local growth in air travel. The 300,000-sq. ft. terminal is equipped to handle over 100 flights daily to national and international destinations. In addition, there are six executive airports located throughout the Charleston region.
Mass Transit
South Carolina Electric & Gas (SCE&G) operates bus service in the city of Charleston and several surrounding areas, including the Isle of Palms, Mount Pleasant and Sullivan's Island. The Downtown Area Shuttle (DASH), provided by the City of Charleston, makes getting around the historic district easy and convenient.
Sea Transportation
The South Carolina State Ports Authority (SPA) operates the public port facilities in the Charleston harbor, which extend from the Atlantic Ocean to Bushy Park above Goose Creek via the Cooper River and Town Creek. The Port of Charleston ranks first among international container cargo ports on the Southeast and Gulf Coasts. Nationwide, Charleston is the United States' sixth busiest container port, and is considered by many to be the most efficient.
